Peak Performance Gear
The goal of Terrex Peak Performance Gear was to develop a system of garments that balance protection, ventilation and range of motion while in cold weather environments. Designed with mountain conditions in mind, this outerwear system aims to enable athletes to excel from trail head to summit and back. These apparel pieces focus on allowing athletes to reach their peak potential while traversing a range of terrain on the way to the summit.
Inspired by performance products and textiles, careful consideration was given to a user’s range of motion by scrutinizing seam placement and focusing on patterning that enabled athletes to move freely. Down mapping and refined baffle spacing provide zones of targeted insulation for warmth while increasing ventilation in select areas for advanced moisture management.
The context, for which these pieces will be worn, must also be considered to ensure the most appropriate material selection across the collection. Specific consideration was given to high abrasion zones where enhanced durability is needed when outerwear comes in contact with backpacks and climbing harnesses.
While there is no substitute for physical prototyping and in-person fit tests, digital prototyping programs are an iterative tool that can facilitate the fast visualization of apparel concepts. All pattern pieces and branded trims were designed digitally to quickly conceptualize flat sketches and provide 3D reference to 2D concepts. This process allowed quick turnaround for peer review, pattern revisions and re-evaluating consumer touch-points on the collection.
Terrex Peak Performance Gear was designed to be a functional system of garments based on the needs of the modern athlete. From trailhead to summit, each phase of an ascent requires specific considerations to ensure your gear never holds you back and enables you to reach your peak potential.
